We are pleased to announce that version 12.10.0 of the Lingotek Translation Management System was released today.
General Enhancements
Workbench
We've made improvements to how translation status is displayed within the Workbench and In-Context Workbench:
- A padlock icon now displays to indicate when a segment has been "locked" by the project manager (i.e. the translation cannot be modified)
- We have replaced the existing translation status badges (Unapproved, Approved and Edited) with the following translation status icons:
Icon | Icon Tool Tip | Description |
---|---|---|
Needs Translation | Displays if there is not a previous translation for the segment | |
Needs Review | Displays if there is a previous translation for the segment, but no action has been taken on it in the current phase (i.e. it hasn't been approved or edited) | |
Translation Approved | Displays when a user approves/saves a previous translation as is OR authors a new translation if there wasn't a previous translation | |
Translation Edited | Displays when a user saves modifications to a previous translation |
In-Context Workbench
In addition to the above-described Workbench enhancements, we've made several improvements to the look and feel of the In-Context Workbench:
- A new "Status" column displays the aforementioned status icons, any applicable leverage badges, and an indication if the segment is locked
- Segment numbers are now in their own column
- To make it easier to find your place in the document, the "active" segment row is now highlighted blue
- A new unified button bar now extends below the "active" segment row, which includes all of the various tools needed for modifying the translation
- The character counter has also been moved into the new unified button bar
- We've changed the source and target font type to make it more readable
Bulk Actions
To help linguists manage multiple tasks, we've added several new bulk actions to the Task List:
- Check Out - checks outs all selected tasks that are eligible to be checked out
- Check Back In - checks back in all selected tasks that are eligible to be checked back in
- Mark Complete - marks complete all selected tasks that are eligible to be marked complete
Reference Material
When preparing a translation project its critical to provide linguists with as many resources as possible. Doing so up front helps linguists deliver the highest quality translation the first time; minimizing costly and slow collaboration between the client, project manager, and linguists. To make this easier, we've added a new features for linguists, project managers and integrators:
- For linguists: A new ‘Reference Material’ tab has been added to the Workbench and In-Context Workbench sidebars. This tab displays a list of downloadable reference material for the linguist, allowing them to download individual files or all reference materials with the click of a button. Reference materials can also be downloaded for multiple tasks at once via a new bulk action in the Task List.
- For project managers: A new 'Reference Material' tab has been added to documents. Project managers can manage reference material for documents individually or in bulk.
- For integrators: API 4 and API 5 support has been added for uploading and downloading reference material to and from documents.
Translation Memory
There are certain scenarios where a linguist may want to prevent the Workbench from saving TM on segment save. Examples include:
The sentence has bad segmentation
The linguist is transcreating
The linguist needs to insert in-line tags (e.g. bold, white space) that aren't part of the source segment
The linguist is providing a gender-specific translation that is context-based
In these, and other scenarios, linguists need to complete the job, but want to prevent translation from saving to and polluting the TM. To support these scenarios, we updated our Workbench and In-Context Workbench to include the option to not save a segment translation to the Translation Memory. This update includes a new keyboard shortcut (ALT+U) to toggle between auto-updating TM for a specific segment (which is the default behavior) and never updating TM for a specific segment. An icon has also been added to UI of both workbenches that indicates whether or not the Translation Memory will be updated upon saving a segment:
Icon | Icon Tool Tip | Description |
---|---|---|
Translation modified; TM will update on save | Indicates that "TM auto-update" is enabled for the segment and that TM will be updated on segment save. | |
Translation unmodified; TM will not update on save | Indicates that "TM auto-update" is enabled for the segment, but that TM will NOT be updated on segment save because the translation has not been changed. | |
TM auto-update disabled; TM will never update | Indicates that "TM auto-update" has been disabled for the segment (i.e. TM will never be updated for the segment unless "TM auto-update" is later re-enabled); the badge overlay shows a count of how many "TM-related notes" have been added to the segment. |
Vendor Management
Tip: These updates are applicable for users of the Vendor Management app.
The ‘Translation Assignee’ column populates as expected in the ‘Cost’ and ‘Invoice’ reports.
A 'Responsible User' column has been added to the 'Cost' and 'Invoice' reports.
Large reports download from Chrome and Firefox as expected.
All date fields in the Cost and Invoice Reports now display in the MM/DD/YYYY HH:MM:SS (24 hour format).
Offline Translation
For those using a third-party CAT tool to conduct offline translation, we've added a few new enhancements:
- When 'Task Re-import' has been enabled for a project, a new XLIFF state mapper now appears on the project's Settings tab. The XLIFF state mapper allows project managers to configure which XLIFF states should result in Lingotek importing translation on task re-import; and whether or not to also update TM for translations with those XLIFF states.
