Find and Replace in the Workbench

Overview

Use the Find and Replace tool to resolve errors that reoccur throughout the task quickly. This will help maintain the style, quality, and voice of a translation.

To use the Find and Replace tool, use the action shortcut or:

  1. Select the Menu Icon > Tools > Open Find/Replace

  2. Choose whether you are searching for text in the Target or Source.

Since you cannot edit the source, you can only use Replace when Target is selected.

Searching and Replacing Text

  1. Choose if you are searching for:

    1. Partial - Will highlight text that matches the search text, even if it is only part of a word. (EX: searching a will highlight the letter "a" in "glad")

    2. Whole - Will highlight words that match the search text exactly. (EX: searching "glad" will highlight the word "glad")

    3. Segment - Will highlight segments that match the search text exactly. (EX: searching "I am glad." will only highlight a segment if the only text it contains is "I am glad.")

  2. Decide whether or not your search should be case-sensitive.

  3. Enter what you are searching in the Find text field.

  4. Select Find to navigate to the first result. Use the arrows to navigate and highlight the next/previous results. The number of results will be listed in the upper left-hand corner, and the matching text is highlighted in the results.

  5. In the Replace field, enter the text you want to replace with. Then select Replace or Replace All to change any matches from the Find field.

  6. Translations edited by the Replace tool are saved.

Unsaved Translations

The find and replace tool works on unsaved translations as well. Be aware that unsaved translations can only exist on the current page of segments you are on and will be lost if you close the Workbench without saving them.
