In-Context Translation
Overview
Linguists need to have context during the translation process whenever possible. Enterprise’s Workbench also provides In-Context translation for multiple content types.
To open the Context Viewer, Open Menu > View > Show Context Viewer
In-Context Translation
In-Context Translation for files
Currently, In-Context translation and review are available for HTML and InDesign file types (we support up to InDesign version 16.x). Whenever the user opens these file types, the Context Viewer will display an accurate rendering of the file.
In-Context translation for InDesign files is only available for enterprise communities. Please contact sales@lingotek.com for more information.Â
Included features of Live In-Context translation:
Live updates to the preview when inserting or editing translations.Â
Selecting translatable text in the preview will open navigate to that segment in the Workbench.Â
Selecting a segment in the Workbench will navigate you to that location in the preview.
Toggling between the source and target view.Â
Webpage In-Context Translation
If the Source URL metadata field is populated with a valid URL, the context viewer will load that URL when the Workbench is loaded.
If for whatever reason an HTML file is uploaded to the TMS and the source URL is also populated, the source URL context viewer will be loaded. Â
If less than 50% of the source segments are matched to the loaded webpage, the system will retry matching segments after 3 seconds. You also have a manual option to retry loading segments under the Context Viewer Settings.Â
In specific instances outside of our control, users may not be able to load webpages inside our Context Viewer. In those cases, users can launch the URL in a new window and get all of the same in-context functionality in the new window. For more details and technical information on correctly setting up your site for in-context translation see here.
Segment Note Context
Certain file types (see below) can be uploaded to our TMS with notes that will be parsed out and displayed in our Segment Notes tab. If these notes include a URL preceded by the keyword LRM_INCONTEXT then we will automatically load that URL in the context viewer to provide the linguist context for that segment. (If the segment note includes a URL without the prefix, the user can click on that URL and it will load in the Context Viewer.) Note that if there are multiple notes with that segment with the keyword and URL only the most recent will be loaded in the context viewer. As the user navigates the next segment, the Context Viewer will automatically close or load the new URL. Â
File Types that automatically import parse out segment notes:
.properties
.po
xliff (1.2)
.srt (this just extracts timestamps)
File Types that can be supported but requires a regular expression filter setup:
JSON
.xml with ITS
Context Viewer Settings
The behavior of the Context Viewer can be controlled using these settings:
Open links in Context Viewer - If segment notes include a URL, the Context Viewer will display that webpage automatically.Â
Auto-open context URLs when navigating between segments - As you are navigating between segments, the Context Viewer will display a new tab each segment note that contains a URL.
Auto-open source URL websites when opening a new task - You can decide whether or not the Context Viewer will automatically open when the Source URL metadata field is populated with a URL.Â
Auto-open HTML files in the Context Viewer - Decide whether or not HTML files are automatically rendered in the Context Viewer or not.Â
Auto-open URL in new window - Each time a source URL is found on the document, the preview will be launched in a separate window. This is useful for organizations that don’t want to adjust their security settings to load the preview in our Context Viewer. Launching context to a separate window closes our context viewer in the Workbench automatically.
Retry Segment Matching - This only displays if you are looking at a Source URL and if our extension is installed. If the segments do not successfully match the webpage loaded by the source URL, you can choose to retry segment matching.Â
