Task Information

The task that you selected from your task list will open in the Workbench. From there you will be able to see all the segments within the task with the source on the left side and the target on the right side of the grid. Before you begin translation, you should review valuable information about the task. The following information can be seen within the header and footer of the Workbench.

  • Header

    • Task Name

    • Task Progress

    • Due date

    • The active segment

      • From here you can type in specific segment numbers to jump to that segment. Also, you can toggle through segments from here or jump to the last or first segment.

    • Page Size - the number of segments you want to see on one page. The max page size is 3000 segments.

    • Page number

      • You can type in specific page numbers to jump to that page. Also, you can toggle through pages using the arrows, or jump to the first or last page.

    • Available resources

      • Each resource icon also includes a number next to it so you can know if there are resources you need to review.

  • Footer (Information Bar)

    • TM Statistics

    • Processes Widget

    • Document Name – Hover over this field and you will see a copy icon. Click the copy icon and you will see options to copy the document name, ID, UUID, or all three.

    • Due Date

    • Unsaved Segments

    • Words and Weighted Words

    • The total number of tags in the task

    • The number of tags that have not yet been applied

    • Total target characters – This field is calculated on-demand, and is meant to be a final check once your translation task is complete. It sums all characters from the primary translation. Depending on your progress that could mean it is looking at translations in phases before and after the current phase you are working on.

Check out the task

To help automate assignments and work in the TMS, we have given project managers the ability to assign tasks to a group of people, who then have the opportunity to "claim" a task for themselves by checking out the task. The first individual from the group that checks out the task will be able to work on it, and the others who didn't will no longer be able to edit the task. You can check out the task from the task list or the Workbench.

From the Workbench

  1. Click a task from the Task List to launch the Workbench.

  2. At the bottom of the grid, there will be a message informing you that that task has not been checked out.

  3. Select Check Out Task.

  4. The task will now be checked out to you and no one else will be able to work on the task (with the exception of project managers). If you decide that you are no longer able to work on the task, you may check the task back in so that other linguists can claim it.

Editing Segments

Editing a segment includes a lot more than simply translating a source segment. The Lingotek Workbench includes a variety of tools that can be used to enhance the translation process to help the Linguist's turnaround time and ensuring the quality of the translation.Â
