Troubleshooting (XLIFF Re-imports)

If you are unable to export/re-import XLIFF files, it could be caused by a number of issues: insufficient permissions, altered source files, or technical errors.

Use the list and table below to find possible causes and solutions to problems with XLIFF exports and re-imports.

  • The task is already complete. (Once a task reaches 100% and has been "marked complete," it cannot be overwritten by an imported XLIFF).

  • The user does not have access to the task. (Users can only export/re-import their own assignments).

  • Another error was found (see below).

Other Errors

If an error other than those listed above caused the re-import to fail, the reason will be listed on the Process Queue.

Any task that failed will be marked with a failed import icon .

To find out why the task re-import failed, click the Details link (listed next to the task). The Error will be listed at the end of the dialog.

Error while parsing XLIFF file or not a valid Enterprise XLIFF.

This error occurs if the XLIFF doesn't follow the XLIFF spec and/or if the file uploaded is not an actual XLIFF file. For example, if you try to import SDLXLIFF you would get this error. (i.e. Enterprise successfully read the file, but the file had invalid syntax).

Make sure the file is saved as XLIFF (and not SDLXLIFF*).

*SDLXLIFF is not supported in the Enterprise TMS.

Failed to read XLIFF file or
XLIFF invalid.

There was a technical issue while the file was importing to Enterprise.

The "Failed to read" message is an IO error. This means that Enterprise could not read the re-imported XLIFF file from the hard drive.

File not found.

There was a technical issue during file re-import.

Try re-importing the task again.

If you are unsuccessful after two more attempts, reach out to support@lingotek.com.

Illegal UUID in XLIFF.

The document UUID was edited, is invalid, or has bad syntax.

Re-export or contact support@lingotek.com.

The source attribute is not valid.

This error occurs if the source attribute in the XLIFF file doesn't match the source attribute of the task in Enterprise.

Note: This error is rare.

Make sure the source text in the XLIFF file matches the source text of the task in Enterprise.

The target attribute is not valid.

Same as above, only regarding the target instead of the source.
