In the Product Lifecycle of Drupal 8, we’ve been using 8.x-1.x and 8.x-2.x. At the end of it, as semantic versioning was available on Drupal.org, we adopted that and created 3.0.x, compatible with 8.8+ and 9+.

This was the first release branch of Drupal 8 support, kicked off quite before Drupal 8 was released. After some releases and lots of customers using Drupal 8 and LingotekRAY Enterprise, we figured out that saving the Lingotek RAY Enterprise required metadata as part of the content was not the best idea to support the revisioning and workflow tools that were appearing.
