Translating Config Items (Drupal 7)

What is a Configuration Item?

A configuration item is any item – such as a menu or a block – that is not actually part of a node. Some configuration items – such as menus and blocks – need to be translated. Other configuration items – such as built-in interface and miscellaneous strings don’t.

How Do I Determine Which Configuration Items to Translate?

Designate which configuration items to translate (and ignore) from the Config Management tab. Go to Translation > Manage > Config.

  1. Place a check next to the menu item(s) you wish to translate.
  2. Under Actions, scroll to select Upload for translation.
  3. Once the item is uploaded, a red language icon will appear next to its title. Click the language icon to open the item in the workbench and complete its translation.
  4. Once the configuration items are translated, they can be downloaded to your website – manually or automatically (depending on your settings).
