Project Types
Overview
There are two types of projects in the Lingotek TMS, Scoped and Continuous. Continuous projects are for customers who want a fully automated, continuous translation model. Scoped projects allow customers to upload content in batches, and then decide if they want to proceed with that job before workflows continue. These two project types have different life cycles and behavior, so review this page to understand their differences.
Continuous Projects
The continuous project is the original project in Lingotek TMS. It is like a “bucket” where you drop new content and the translation process begins immediately. Assignments, billing, due dates are automated so you don’t need human interaction to slow down the continuous localization flow unless an exception occurs. There isn’t a reason for continuous projects to end, as you can edit its settings and workflow as needed and all current and new content will adjust accordingly.
Scoped Projects
A scoped project is one deliverable. Regardless of how many documents are in the project, all of their translations are considered a part of the same job. Because of that, you can review the “scope” of the job before work begins and then approve the contents and costs before work proceeds. There are some actions that you can’t take based on the project’s status to ensure you and your team members don’t change the project scope after it is approved.

Eligibility
To create a scoped project:
Your default organization must have a relationship with an LSP organization.
The workflow your new project is using needs to have a leverage phase.
Your leverage phase must have the rule, “When leverage translation memory process completes, then generate quote.“
These requirements allow you to receive a project-level quote and ensure that all billable phases receive costs before you can approve the project.
Project Lifecycle
When you first create a scoped project, it will be in the “Scoping” status until it is approved.
While the project is in Scoping status, you can add and remove content and request translations in the project.
Any phases after the leverage phase will be in the “scoping” status and they will not be editable until the project is approved.
Costs are calculated in the Vendor application when the leverage phases are complete.
When all billable phases have their costs calculated, you can approve the project.
After you approve the project, it is “Active.” When the project is active:
Assignments are exposed to linguists in the task list.
Due dates are given to phases after the leverage phase (if your due date configurations are set up).
You will no longer be able to add content to the project or request additional translations.
You can still cancel any work that you no longer need, but you can be billed for any work that was in progress by your language service provider.
You can also deny a project, in which case, all its content is canceled and put in a completed state.
When the project reaches 100% progress, you can mark the project “Complete.”
Completed scoped projects cannot be re-opened like continuous projects.
You can download content from completed projects but most other actions are limited.
Unique Features
Project level cost displayed in the Project and Portal applications
Requesting a PDF quote for the entire project.
Pausing the project progress until it has been approved.
