Overview

There may be times that you wish to manage linguist permissions or Workbench behavior on a project level. To enable this we have added a section of Linguist permissions on the project settings.

Tip

Certain settings will affect more than users with the "community member" (or linguist) role but are still included in this section because the use case for the setting is specifically meant to aid linguists in the localization process.

To adjust linguist permissions on a project level:

  1. Open Projects from the sidebar menu and choose

    the

the Project you want to adjust linguist permissions

    for

    .

  2. Open the Settings

     tab

     tab for that project.

  3. Select Edit on the Linguist Options section.

  4. Make the desired changes. Choose Save

Below is a brief description of the settings you can enable from the Linguist Options section:

Hide Machine Translation results within the Workbench

This is for users who would like to quickly populate their website or software application with MT; , and then at some point replace the MT with human translations, but do not want the human translators to be influenced by the MT results. If there were any MT results from a an MT step or rule and this setting is set to Yes, the segment won't be populated with MT results. Additionally, the revision history won't show that MT results were applied by the Lingotek system.

Allow Document Upload by linguists

At times, your community may want to enable certain users to upload documents without having the other permissions the project manager role includes. For these cases, you can allow community members who are assigned to a project and have a matching language pair set up in their user profile to upload files. This setting is only available on the project if you enable it on the Community Settings as well.

Allow linguists to edit tracked time

Linguists can track the time they spend on a task using the Track Time tool in the Workbench. Occasionally linguists may make a mistake while tracking time (leaving the time tracker running when they aren't working on their task) and they may want to adjust the time they spent on the task. If you would like to allow them to adjust the time they have spent on a task within the Workbench or from the Time Spent column in the task list, you can set this setting to true. If you would like to make sure that linguists have to speak to a project manager before time is adjusted, then set this to false. In which this case a project manager will have to make the change on behalf of a linguist.

Tip

If you allow linguists to change the time they spent on a task, they still cannot adjust the time spent after they have marked a task complete.

Require linguists to review upon opening the Workbench

:

Reference materials and document notes are an essential part of the localization process. Linguists should carefully review these resources before beginning the translation process. It can be difficult for Project Managers to ensure linguists

do

review these materials before beginning translation, so we have created a setting that will show a modal when opening the Workbench that displays whichever resources

that

were selected in the project setting and are actually available on the task. (i.e. If the setting is enabled to show reference materials, but there aren't any reference materials, then the modal will not appear.)

Info

Even though this setting is under Linguist Options, it will apply to any user who opens the Workbench and other requisites are met.

Document Download Options

If you would like translators to be able to download an entire source document so they can see its original layout, you can control those permissions on the project's Settings tab. Allow the translators to download the document either in its original format or as a PDF, TMX, or XLIFF file.

To allow linguists to download files,

  1. Open the Project.

  2. Above the project’s open document list, click the Settings tab (far right).

  3. In the Document Options window, click the Edit button.

  4. Using the drop-down menus, scroll to choose whether to allow translators to download their assigned source/target documents and whether it will be available in the original file format or in a PDF.

  5. Be sure to Save your work.
